Public health communication plays a vital role in informing communities about essential health practices, especially regarding vaccinations. As we navigate ongoing health challenges, leaders in the field are stepping up to raise awareness and promote preventive care. One such leader is Dr. Jean Storm, the Medical Director of Quality Insights, who recently took to the airwaves on KDKA Radio’s “Inside Connection”,  reaching an audience of 25,000 listeners in Southwestern Pennsylvania, northern and central West Virginia, and parts of Ohio. She passionately shared Quality Insights' mission and the important work of the QIN-QIO community project.

Dr. Storm addressed key issues like opioid misuse, the importance of the Medicare Annual Wellness Visit, chronic disease management, and immunizations. She emphasized the lifesaving role of vaccines for older adults and introduced Pennsylvania's new tracking system, the Pennsylvania Immunization Electronic Registry System, which helps individuals manage their vaccination history and improve community health.

Dr. Storm cleared up misconceptions about the pneumococcal vaccine, explaining its different doses and types, and assured listeners that primary care physicians and the Pennsylvania Immunization Electronic Registry System are reliable sources for checking vaccination status. She also shared updates on the latest CDC guidelines for COVID-19, empowering the audience to make informed health decisions. This presentation not only educated, but also inspired listeners to prioritize their health and the health of their communities, marking a significant step forward in public health awareness and proactive healthcare management.

As Dr. Storm’s insights underscore the critical importance of vaccinations, they serve as a reminder for all of us to stay informed and engaged in our health care decisions. With the right resources and knowledge, we can collectively improve public health outcomes and combat misinformation. The efforts of Quality Insights, along with community partners, are paving the way for a healthier future, emphasizing the need for ongoing education and proactive measures to protect our communities.
