West Virginia Certified Community Behavioral Health Centers Initiative (CCBHC)

Join Us in the Journey to Certification

The West Virginia Department of Human Services (DoHS), Bureau for Behavioral Health (BBH) and Bureau for Medical Services (BMS) are leading the way to advance the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs) Model in West Virginia. BBH is partnering with Quality Insights to provide technical assistance, guiding West Virginia’s 13 Comprehensive Behavioral Health Centers (CBHCs) and other licensed behavioral health care providers towards CCBHC certification, transforming their practice workflows, and encouraging integrated, coordinated care.

Quality Insights leverages the expertise of Bowling Business Strategies (BBS) to share effective strategies and resources for becoming a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC).

CCBHCs will provide integrated healthcare services that are evidence-based, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and person and family-centered across a continuum of care and throughout the lifespan of the individual.

number 2 with a drop shadow in a circle

CCBHCs will increase access to services by offering a comprehensive range of mental health, substance use disorder (SUD), and primary care screening services through systems integration and monitoring.

number 3 with a drop shadow in a circle

CCBHCs will maintain and expand upon established collaborative relationships with other service providers and healthcare systems to promote effective coordination of care.

Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics

A Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) is specially designated to provide a comprehensive range of mental health and substance use services. CCBHCs create access, stabilize people in crisis, and provide the necessary treatment for those with the most serious, complex mental illnesses and substance use disorders. CCBHCs integrate additional services to ensure an approach to health care that emphasizes recovery, wellness, trauma-informed care, and physical behavioral health integration. These services include, but are not limited to:

Provision of 24/7/365 crisis care

On-site care coordination

Integrated health care

Tailored care for active-duty military and veterans
